Upcoming Volunteer Training:
Volunteers are invaluable to our commitment to provide services for victims of sexual assault. Our volunteers serve as Sexual Assault Medical Advocates, which means they provide crisis counseling, medical and legal advocacy to survivors who come in to one of our 13 contracted ERs and/or they act as Education and Training volunteers. We require our volunteers to be on call for two 12-hour shifts per month (after completion of the training).
All prospective volunteers must attend the volunteer training to become Rape Crisis Counselors, in accordance with the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. We will be holding orientation sessions for those who are interested in the training. The orientation includes: an introduction to sexual assault issues, overview of RVA programs and opportunities, volunteer job descriptions, volunteer training guidelines/expectations, and the application process. A personal interview with one of our experienced trainers will follow the orientation. You MUST attend one orientation session before completing our training.
The next volunteer training class will be held in January '08. For more information on volunteering or this training, please contact us at volunteer@rapevictimadvocates.org.
