Soirée in the City 2016
Last year’s event brought over 350 Rape Victim Advocates’ supporters. Over $167,000 was raised for RVA, which made this event the most successful in RVA’s history. The money raised ensures that RVA can continue to provide its services at no charge to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones. Chaired by Julie Cameron, RVA Board member, this year’s revenue was an impressive 59% higher than last year’s proceeds, which is particularly important in a year when the Illinois budget crisis has continued to devastate services across the city and state. Thirty five corporations and individuals sponsored the event including the Henderson family, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Catharsis Productions, Consolidated Trading, the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust, Mesirow Financial and Protiviti. The media sponsor was Chicago Women magazine.
Guests enjoyed delicious food from Inspired Catering and Events and beer donated by Lagunitas Brewing, while actively bidding on almost 90 silent auction packages. DJ Karen from Toast & Jam provided the music and this year’s emcee was Dorothy Tucker, CBS2 Chicago. A spirited Fund-A-Need (paddle raise) led by Mary Morten, Morten Group, raised almost $53,000 in a matter of minutes.
RVA honored Kristie Paskvan, founder of Chicago Says No More and Chief Financial Officer of Mesirow Financial, with the Dr. Natalie A. Stephens Visionary Award. This award was named for RVA’s founder and recognizes the work of far-sighted leaders who have made a powerful and lasting impact on the issue of sexual violence in Chicago and beyond.
During the program, a testimonial from a survivor and her husband inspired everyone with how RVA helped them to heal from her assault.
